Boost your conversion rate by offering free and next day delivery options

At Bespoke, we’ve been encouraging our clients to introduce free delivery options to their e-commerce websites for a while. So we welcome the findings of the Walker Sands future of Retail 2016 report, which give us every reason to continue sharing this advice in order to help our clients dramatically increase their revenue.

The retail survey shows that free shipping is the number 1 incentive for 9 out of 10 shoppers to buy from online retailers. So if you’re an online retailer and you don’t offer free delivery, or incentives for free delivery, you may be losing out on valued custom.

Other motives for online consumerism include next day delivery, with almost 70 percent more likely to purchase from retailers with this option, and free returns and exchanges, which interests around two thirds of shoppers. 

While half of shoppers are interested in same day delivery, less than 10 percent have had the opportunity to use the service. So introducing same day shipping would be a great way to outperform your competitors.

Faster delivery is, overall, the most effective way you can increase online conversions. Looking at the trends of regular shoppers, half of online shoppers have used a next day service and 85% have used delivery that arrives in two days.

The Future of Retail 2016 study also showed that those shopping online on a weekly basis increased by more than 41 percent across 2014 to almost a third of all consumers. This number is set to increase year on year, so now is a better time than any to invest in your supply chain and logistics.

In fact, last year, almost 30 percent of retailer’s capital expenditures went towards improving customer fulfilment which involves providing seamless shipping, delivery and returns.
