5 Ways to Achieve Top Ranking for Local Search

If you own a business, you already know how important it is to rank in local search results. The internet is a primary source for consumers looking for local business information. Not showing up on local searches could be detrimental to your online business, so we’ve outlined five of the best practices you should follow to achieve local search engine dominance.

1. Build Local Citations

Every added citation on a local listing website gives you another tick in the box for local SEO. Whilst creating listings on a range of local directories can be time-consuming, taking the time to create these listings to their maximum potential is what a local business must do if it wants to rank highly in local search.
It’s important to ensure that you provide as much information as possible to each directory. The more complete you make each listing, the better the leads, sales and clicks from that website.

Tip: Use the exact same address format throughout your website and on listing websites to ensure the best local search results.

2. Google Local Pages

Google My Business is one of the best things you can do to improve your local SEO visibility. If you haven’t already, you need to claim your Google My Business page. It’s free to set up and will appear in a prominent position on the search results page next to relevant search results.

There should be a Google My Business page for each of your business locations. As mentioned previously, the information on each listing should be as extensive as possible and should include things like:

  • The business’s name, address and phone number
  • Verified email address
  • A description of the business
  • Relevant categories
  • Business location on a map
  • Business opening hours
  • A link to the business website
  • Business related photos/ videos
  • Reviews of the business

3. Create Local Landing Pages

Create unique location-based pages on your website or store pages, these can be optimised to provide content that is relevant to local customers and targeted at local keyword searches.  In order to ensure success, your pages must have unique content (not duplicated from anywhere else on the internet or from within your website) and they must provide correct and relevant information for customers. You should also get your pages ready for local search by adding meta titles and descriptions, pages titles, relevant URLs and through relevant link building.

4. Add Schema Location Markup to your website

As one of the most underutilised forms of SEO available today, it’s a wonder why many businesses still don’t use Schema Markup on their websites.
Schema Location Markup is a very powerful tool which adds extra detail and relevance to local search results to give your website content more prominence. In terms of local searches it’s the difference between potential customers seeing a regular search result for your site...
